Latvia is a pearl of Baltic countries located in North Europe at the Baltic seaside. Territory of Latvia occupies 64 589 kilometres². It is a green country with widely stretched forests and untouched nature. Latvia is known for the sandy beaches, modern seaports, excellent resorts, and ancient fishing settlements. Since old times Latvia was Europe crossing between West and East, between South and North. Therefore Latvia is a multicultural country that preserved its unique traditions. Latvia is rich in beautiful architecture and fascinating sights, and safe and healthy ecological environment.

The capital of Latvia is Riga, the largest city in Baltic countries. It is situated on both sides of river “Daugava”, not far from its inflow in the Riga bay. For a long time Riga was a Gansiatic city. There are buildings of different styles from medieval architecture of old city to the modern architecture. Riga is the largest port and one of the major commercial and cultural centers. The historical center of Riga is included in UNESCO World Heritage List. In 2014 Riga became one of the cultural capitals of Europe. The main sights of Old Riga are: Dome Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, St. EKABA’s Cathedral, Town Hall Square, LIVU Square, Riga Castle, and others. Dome Square is the largest square in Old Riga and it is considered to be the central square. Seven streets of Old Riga cross at this square. In summer there are many outdoor cafes, where people can relax and enjoy live music every day.

Not far from Riga (at the distance of 17 km.) you can see the pearl of Latvia – beautiful Jurmala. The area of Jurmala is about 100 sq. km. It is a famous seaside resort. The beaches of Jurmala are about 30 km long. Jurmala is a favorite place for conferences, meetings, concerts, symposiums. Jurmala is known for its unusual architecture with decors, cut on tree, buildings of country type and spa facilities.

 

There are residence of the President of Latvia, Museum of Yan Raynis and his wife – the poetess Aspasia in Jurmala.

 

The list of architectural monuments of Jurmala includes 414 buildings, and the number of historical constructions includes more than 4000.

 

Summer walk in the pedestrian street Yomas from Mayori to Dzintari will show you the city life rhythm. The first shop, market, and drugstore were opened in this street. Now you can see there a lot of restaurants and cafes.
